I gave each student a circle and ellipse pattern to use to create their fish. I do a draw-a-long with them and don't tell them what we are drawing so they can guess as we go along.
After our fish is complete we chose one color to use with white & black. They use the plain color to paint in all the fish fins, head and tail.
We then mix a small amount of color with our white to paint in the body. The remaining plain color is mixed with black to make the shade. We painted that color in the background.
The following class we use black crayons to outline the fish neatly, draw and eye & mouth. Then finally add a repeated line inside the body. This is a very successful lesson that I have used for three years now. I highly recommend it!
