We began by gluing a white square onto a long strip of turquoise paper. Then each student used a triangle template to trace a triangle onto a small tan rectangle. I stressed for every student to cut slowly and precise to get a smooth edged triangle. The triangle was glued to the bottom center of the turquoise paper.
The next step was to trace four circles onto two pink square papers and two brown papers. I then showed them how to cut a circle out neatly by keeping their scissor blades pointed toward the ceiling and turning the square slowly so that they stay on their pencil line. They were allowed another paper if they cut a sloppy circle.
Then each circle was glued above the cone in an AB pattern. They were so cute trying to cut the perfect circles.
