We start with an animal that lives in the water without any interior details. We then choose a name with at least three letters and draw it in block or bubble letters inside the fish making sure each letter touches the top and bottom of the fish. We then use black marker to trace our drawing.
During the second class we add different patterns to the negative space between each letter. We talk about contrast and how to make the letters of the name stand out by coloring in some of the pattern. The more black we add the higher the contrast and easier it is to see the name.
