I then gave them some book marks my librarian gave me years ago with different gods and goddess’ on them. They have a description of each god and goddess on the back. I asked my students to pick one and draw it on a tan paper making sure to “draw like an Egyptian” with their prescribed pose. They did not have to draw the entire body if they drew big enough.
They added a cartouche of the god’s name and a pattern at the top and bottom of the paper. Permanent black markers were used to outline. Construction paper and multicultural crayons were used to color in their drawings.
Having the bookmarks helps the students to feel more confident when starting their drawings. I’ve been doing this lesson for a while now and am always happy with the results.
