Our learning objective is to create a figure in an action pose. This was a student led assignment where they could use any drawing media they wanted to create a picture showing at least one figure in action. They came up with a lot of great ideas for their subject matter and seemed to enjoy the challenge of the assignment.
Our learning objective for this piece is, We will create a realistic self-portrait using correct facial proportions. We began by talking about what are correct facial proportions and looked at variety of artworks to decide if the artist used correct facial proportions in their portraits. Next we looked at artwork and discussed what realistic means. We then looked at each facial feature and discussed how to draw them realistically.
The class worked step by step to face map their self-portraits and worked hard to make their facial features look realistic. We then focused on completing our self-portraits by adding a neck & shoulders, hair and any other item that would make it look like us.
We outlined our drawings with markers and colored in our work with crayon.
This was a very difficult task to take on but all my second graders were real troopers and took on the assignment without complaint or getting frustrated. Way to go!
Our learning Objectives for this work are: we will understand people from different places and times have made art for a variety of reasons, we will be able to create art for purpose of recording history & we will be able to use materials and tools safely and properly.
We began by looking at the book "The First Drawing" by Mordicai Gerstein. We discussed what tools might have been used to create the cave art and why someone would create art in a cave.
We flattened a piece of Model Magic air dry clay into a slab (cave piece) and then transferred our cave drawing onto the dried cave piece. We then used permanent marker to trace our art and then painted the piece with watercolor paint.
Our learning objectives for this piece are: We will manipulate paper to create forms & we can identify and demonstrate sculpture-in-the-round. Each student started with a cardboard base that was then covered with construction paper. Each child was encouraged to use at least four different paper manipulation techniques demonstrated in the instructional video.
We were working on the learning objective: We will know one purpose of art is to record history. With this assignment we created a historical monument honoring the first motorized air flight by the Wright brothers.
We began by watching the first flight on film and compared how it differs from flying today. We then looked at a variety of world monuments and discussed what historical event they honored.
We then used a clothes pin and Popsicle sticks to create an airplane sculpture. We discussed how most memorials are only one color so each student chose one color of metallic paint to paint their airplane.
We looked at the Wright Brother memorial in Kitty Hawk and discussed how it has a sculpture outside but other memorabilia inside. I asked each student to choose where they wanted to place their memorial; inside or outside and we created a diorama to place our sculpture in. We used marker and crayons to color in the diorama.
The final step was to place our airplane into the diorama and add an informational plaque of the date of the first flight.
